On my previous post Cyprus Gastronomy, I mentioned that it is very easy to find souvla/souvlaki shop. This time, I’d like to share the local canteen or cafeteria selling a variety of local food in Nicosia that I often visit with my family especially over the weekend.

They offer a wide range variety of products including slow-cooked and grilled food, Pizzas, Salads, Sandwiches and Café 24.  For every single food you choose, you will get bread as a complementary. Zorbas is open for 24 hours, provides delivery service and it has a catering service up to 1000 people.

Address: Many stores. Our favorite is the one in Atthalasa Avenue (near Cable Net).

2.     To Phi To

To Phi ToNot like the size of Zorbas and Pandora, To Phi To is a family business and only has one store. So it looks more like a small canteen with home-made food. though it has some seats for 4-5 tables. To Phi To also provides delivery service but unfortunately it does not have online menu and  the leaflet/printed menu that is available in the canteen only in Greek. But it’s truly a local favorite! We only found it after few months from our good friend.

  • Taste              : ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
  • Variety           : ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
  • Cleanliness   : ♥ ♥ ♥
  • Price              : ♥ ♥ ♥ (Honestly we never know the price per portion as it’s all in Greek )
  • Convenience : ♥ ♥ ♥

Our favorite menu : Grilled chicken, Souvla, croquette, bean cooked in tomatoes, Pomegranate salad with sun dried tomatoes, the bread (not free), and  the fried noodle. The previous chef was an Indonesian lady hence the fried noodle taste feels like very close to home :). (but now the lady has backed to Indonesia).

Address: In front of Honda in Griya Diveni Street!. It has a parking space behind the store. Note that it is closed on Tuesday.

1.     Kapatsos

KapatsosIf you want to find delicious local and international foods at the same place, go to Kapatsos. There are lots of food selections with clear board menu written in Greek and English (with price). We found this canteen and the taste is excellence. Some of the grilled food options such as fish, chicken and steak/chop are half-grilled and will re-grilled when it bought by customer.  Highly recommended, but if you want to avoid long queue, come before 1 pm.  Kapatsos also provides delivery service.

  • Taste             : ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  • Cleanliness   : ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
  • Price              : ♥ ♥ ♥
